ENERGY SMART

PRE-CONFERENCE PROGRAM

Monday, June 19, Marriott Marquis
1:00 pm to 5:30 pm

The digital transformation of the global economy is inextricably interdependent upon the digital infrastructure transformation of power utilities and the data center. No challenge of the near future will likely be greater than that of meeting the escalating, always-on demand for power and its resiliency, security, efficiency and carbon reduction (still a 50% green target by 2025?).

This by-invitation series of thought-leader conversations is for senior executives, and top power systems technologists, engineers and design/build professionals for both utilities and data centers.

ENERGY SMART

DCD>Energy Smart
Energy 4.0 and the Smart Data Center Power Ecosystem for the Digital Transformation Era

The digital transformation of the global economy is now well underway and gaining in velocity. Energy is a (if not the…) key infrastructure component of this global sea-change. Energy 4.0, the era of smart digital power, is today inextricably intertwined with telecommunications, data centers and cloud technologies (taken together, the digital infrastructure ecosystem). The electric energy utility sector is itself a major industrial developer and user of these technologies while providing the energy that powers the increasingly digital-first, internet-facing, and cloud-native economy.

Likely, no industrial challenge of the near future will be greater than that of ensuring the abundant, safe, secure, reliable, resilient, clean and continuously available supply of electrical energy to meet the digital transformation demands across all industry sectors (i.e. Industry 4.0).

DCD Energy Smart is to be a conversation among executives and technical professionals engaged with electrical power generation and smart-grid distribution supply side “north” of the data center power utility meter and the data center power demand side “south” of the data center.

These two “sides” rarely, if ever, come together to talk about what appears to be a converging path. The “in-between” space where both power utilities and data centers can meet in strategic partnering, i.e. integrated micro-grids, demand response, energy storage, distributed renewables networks, AI/predictive analytics, IT/machine learning for controls engineering and operational technology, industrial IoT and network edge, and software-defined energy networks, etc.

DCD EnergySmart is less about finding “answers”, and more about the two sides of the digital energy equation sitting on the same side of the table and looking out to the near future of cooperative and collaborative digital energy infrastructure development to meet the demands of digital transformation.

The schedule is divided into three primary roundtable topic segments. Each panel session will be segmented into discussion by the panel followed by open-mic discussion with delegates. Each roundtable panel session will be AV-captured content replay and repurposing.
