Data Center Capacity Planning with a Digital Twin

Sherman Ikemoto, Director, Future Facilities

In data center capacity planning there is tremendous pressure to deliver on three objectives: speed, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. The challenge in this is that these objectives conflict with each other. Emphasizing one tends to undermine the other two. There is an alternative. It's a completely new planning approach to capacity planning that is based on the digital twin of the data center that mimics physical behavior of the live facility by encompassing the entire infrastructure in a 3D virtual model. In this session the capacity planning challenge is discussed and the concept of using a digital twin for capacity planning is introduced. In addition, a case study in the use of a digital twin will be presented.
